Number in Use
Record number of motor caravans, steady growth in caravans
- Flattening dynamics of stock growth since 2022
- Once again, the increase in stock is lower than fullyear registrations (21,896); around 60 per cent of new registrations are reflected in the increase in stock
- Decommissioning and exports abroad are responsible for this
Caravans which are taken out of service temporarily, i.e. registered and deregistered again for periods of less than a year, are just as infrequently recorded as non-registered static caravans which are in continuous use on campsites. The CIVD therefore puts the actual number thereof in Germany at more than 900,000 vehicles.
- Another inventory record with 900k registered unit The 1 million mark will be exceeded by 2026 at the latest
- At around 70,000 units, the motor caravan stock is once again growing faster than new registrations
- Proof of the low rate of scrapping and decommissioning
Motor caravans which are registered and de-registered again for periods of less than a year (so-called “temporary decommissioning”) is not included in the index of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. In addition, motor caravans can be registered as cars, trucks or mobile offices, which would also not be included in the statistics of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The CIVD estimates the actual number of motor caravans in use in Germany, including the motor caravans registered in other vehicle classes, to be about 882,000 units.
