Caravanning: A billion-euro engine for the German economy
Record sales and regional strengthening - How the growing popularity of caravanning is driving tourism and local businesses.
The increasing popularity of caravanning is clearly reflected in the sales figures: the growing interest of holidaymakers in this form of travel generates billions for the German economy every year.
According to the latest study by the German Institute of Tourism Economics (dwif), caravanning holidaymakers achieved a new tourism record turnover of around 19.5 billion euros in 2023. This corresponds to an increase of almost 8% compared to the previous record set in 2022 (18.1 billion euros).
Around 6.4 billion euros of this turnover flows directly into the vacation regions and strengthens the local economy there. The spending of caravanning travelers benefits not only operators of campsites and pitches, but also numerous local stores, companies and service providers.
